The hotel: the perfect combination of tradition and avant-garde
It was 1910 when husband and wife Joan Duran and Teresa Camps decided to rent the inn that had previously been known as Ca la Teta in the centre of Figueres. The couple decided to respect the spirit of the business, changing the name to Casa de Menjars J. Duran, and raising their family here. Their two sons, Lluís and Joan, put the establishment on the city’s culinary and tourist map. Today the business is run by Lluís and his wife Joaquima, with their children Ramon and Lluisa, having survived difficult times like the Spanish Civil War and the post-war era. And it was all possible thanks to the passion for hospitality of the Duran family, who still run the business.
Celler de Ca la Teta was the foundation for what Duran Hotel & Restaurant is today: a family-run hotel is true to its roots. This history, the stories that have accumulated over the years, the visitors and the decorative pieces they’ve given the establishment are what make Duran what it is now: a hotel, a restaurant and a little museum of the history of Figueres.
Duran Hotel & Restaurant is the most emblematic hotel in the area, with a long history and renowned prestige, it is also the perfect choice to enjoy a stay in Figueres: in the old town and shopping area, just steps from important buildings like the Dalí Museum and the Toy Museum of Catalonia.
Duran Hotel & Restaurant is a meeting point in Figueres and a family-run establishment packed with history that has, nevertheless, adapted to the changing times and hosted special guests like Salvador Dalí and writer Josep Pla.
The hotel has 65 comfortable rooms, a bar and restaurant serving fresh, local food and Catalan cuisine, plus a breakfast room and meeting room. We also have free Wi-Fi and impeccable, personalised guest services.
The Alt Empordà
The Alt Empordà is an area of great beauty, nestled between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea, which will win anyone over. The tramuntana and local culture have left their mark on the history of this region in northern Catalonia. And it’s so easy to discover it now, as Figueres has a high-speed train station.
Alt Empordà is known for its noteworthy landscapes and culinary delights. The former in areas like Cap de Creus and the Natural Park of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà. And the latter for its combination of produce from the sea and the land, and the great culinary tradition of the region, which has produced many great cooks. Plus, Empordà is one of the most noteworthy wine-making regions in Catalonia, with its own D.O. Empordà.
